just what the heck IS old-time music?

  0
Submit calendar items to nkm&bubbaguitar.com. Our territory is ostensibly Southern old-time stringband music and old-style traditional bluegrass, but our arbitrarily drawn borders are porous indeed. It helps your chances if you submit copy ready for cut and paste. (See the format below.) All of you can help the common cause by proofreading the calendar periodically. Let me know of any errors or confusion.

Historic square dance? Beautiful rebirth? Support it damn ye!

A brand new square dance is starting in Raymond, Washington. Sandy Bradley, the great pioneering traditional caller (to whom we all owe our square dance fun today) is promoting the organizers' efforts to involve both our kind of traditional dance scene and the federation club dancers. If Sandy is for it then Bill Martin is for it. If you know people in that area or near the coast, urge them to support the start up of this dance. Here is what Sandy sent:
"Our neighbor, Guy Priest, is organizing a local square dance, which might become monthly if there is enough interest. There is a very nice caller who calls to records, and some of the dancers come from the square dance federation. They are apparently open to the idea of live music and possibly in me calling some dances some of the time.
Whoever turns up will define the future. I would love to have the two very healthy traditions overlap. Please help spread the word and plan to be there."
