Fiddle Workshop Dave Mount Easy Dance Tunes in G - the Earl Johnson Way! A great dance fiddler, Dave plays with Uncle Wiggly in Portland. His wife, Martha Thompson, will show the chords for any rhythm instruments that want to join in. 12:15-1PM Lunch Provided   1-2:15PM Calling 101 Bill Martin + music by The Tallboys Bill presents his legendary workshop for Beginning Callers. You'll finish this class with the ability to call a couple of dances! Stringband Workshop Small Wonder SB A great workshop for Musicians & Intermediate/Advanced Callers - Sandy, Greg, & Jere will explore the relationship between the band & caller, and how to create that magical synergy that can really light a fire under a dance! 2:15-2:30PM Break   2:30-3:30PM New England & Singing Squares Bob Dalsemer + music by Laurie Andres, Tony Mates, & WB Reid A closer exploration of the classic New England and Singing Square Dances. Banjo Workshop Candy Goldman An excellent clawhammer-style banjo player, Candy is also an excellent teacher and has been teaching Stringband Class with the Canotes for years in Seattle, and has helped create some fine banjo players. 3:30-3:45PM Break   3:45-5PM Timing, Timing, Timing - Calling for Intermediate/Advanced Caller Bob Dalsemer + music by Small Wonder SB A dance workshop that presents how to use good timing in your calling. Helpful for callers who have some info about calling, but perhaps not alot of experience. Bass & Guitar Workshop John Hurd Bassist for The Tallboys, John has an impeccable sense of rhythm, and how to really drive the rhythm for dances. Fiddle Bowing Workshop Michael Ismerio Presented by fiddler Michael Ismerio (formerly of Government Issue Orchestra & the Dickel Brothers). This workshop focuses on your right hand to get your muscle memory used to playing the rhythms, pulses, & drones associated with Old Time Fiddling. It's appropriate for all levels of fiddlers and anyone who can follow a simple melody by ear on the fiddle. This workshop recieved rave reviews from many who attended at Fiddletunes. 12:15-1:15PM Lunch Provided   1:15-2:15PM Stringband Workshop The Tallboys One of the hottest dance bands in the Northwest, the Tallboys have been providing the soundtrack to a remarkable revival of square dancing in Seattle. They'll present a great musician-focused workshop on how to operate as a tightly-knit stringband, and create an irresistable, dancable sound. Round Table Discussion Bob Dalsemer & Sandy Bradley Here's your opportunity to pick the brains of a couple of the finest veteran callers in the US. This workshop will include some dancing for demonstration of ideas/issues. 2:15-2:30PM Break   2:30-3:30PM Easy Couple Dancing Sherry Nevins + music by Laurie Andres, Tony Mates, & WB Reid Traditional community dances often included a variety of couple dances between squares. Sherry Nevins explains how to teach and dance some different couple dances such as waltzes, schottise, polka, etc. Clogging & Bones Charmaine Slaven & Jeff Lefferts Percussion can create a lively, dynamic element in stringband music.
