Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will I have time to crawl home and rest after the festival?
You certainly will! We have arranged for a national holiday on Monday, Jan 21 - Martin Luther King's birthday!

  • Are the hotels within walking distance of the gathering?
Yes. The Thriftlodge is 2 blocks, Jupiter Hotel 3 blocks, and Executive Lodge 4 blocks.

  • Are the events suitable for non musicians?
Its a week-long a music party for non-musicians and pickers alike. There will be shows Wednesday through Sunday, as well as two square dances and a couple of beginning clogging workshops for anybody to take. There will also be a singalong song session. If you are not a musician, the many jam sessions are fun to listen to.

  • Is the gathering suitable for the whole family?
Kids are most welcome at all the Norse Hall and Kennedy School events. The pubs - Alberta Street and Moon & Sixpence - are restricted to twenty-one and over. Saturday we have a special afternoon dance especially tailored for parents and children.

  • Do I need lessons to take part in the dancing?
HECK NO!!! The Old-Time Gathering is a party. You can do our square dances even with two left feet. We'll show you how to do it right there at the dance, and the callers will guide you all the way through each dance. For this old-fashioned style of square dancing, you won't need to bring a partner or wear square dancing costumes.
