FRUIT BASKET
- All drop hands. Men clap with the beat as women go in to the
center and back. Women
clap with the beat as men go in to the center and back, then all
walk toward the center.
While dancing into center, gents place arms around the waists of
the ladies on either side
and ladies place their hands on shoulders of the gents on either
side. In the center the
gents pick the ladies up and set them down, the ladies helping.
All back to form a circle

- Follows 4 below, from that type of basket hold.
Gents swing joined hands over the ladies
and down behind, low enough for the ladies to sit on the gents
hands. Gents pick ladies

- Fruit basket! ~ What? You need more?
BASKET - All the figures in the following section start with a circle
left or left and right. The baskets all
circle left or left then right, followed by a partner swing or
swing corners then partners. The
swings are usually followed by a promenade. Mostly, I include only the
instructions for forming and
transforming the basket itself.
- [Napier says this is a closing figure.] Gents advance
and retire. Ladies move in to the center and circle left; gents circle right outside. Reverse both circles, stop
when lady is to right of
partner. Ladies drop hands and place them on the shoulders of the
gents on either side.
Gents keep their hands held in a circle. Roll the basket. [The Basket

- Same as above with slightly different basket formation. When ladies stop to right of
partner, ladies raise joined hands up, overhead and down in back of the gents. Gents' hands
remain joined behind the ladies at waist level. Roll the basket cw. [Make the Basket -

- Ladies to the center and circle left,
Gents outside and circle right.
Now back the other way and stop by your partner.
Make the basket, make it tight,
We'll circle left half the night.
Break the basket with a corner swing, etc. ~ Hipps & Chappell
- Stop the circles
when the lady is to right of partner. Gents raise joined hands
over the ladies and down in
front. Move the basket cw. As the circle continues moving, gents
raise joined hands back over
the ladies and step forward under the ladies' raised hands. Ladies lower their joined hands behind the gents so ladies and gents all have joined hands with arms in back of each other.
Continue to roll the basket cw. Then break it up and swing partners. [Basket - Bannerman] [Big Basket - Bonner]

- Ladies stop to right of partners, as above. Gents raise their joined hands and ladies back under those arches. Gents bring their raise hands down in front of ladies while ladies retain joined hands in front of gents. So, each pair of gents' joined hands will be in front of a lady and each pair of ladies' joined hands will be in front of a gent. Move the basket cw. [Fruit Basket p. 24; Rohrbough]

Men circle left around
Ladies bow, and gents know how.
