BLACK SNAKE TWIST
-
- While all others remain standing, lead couple and the next
couple on the right (couple 2)
form a small circle. Circle left and right, swing corners, swing
partners, and circle left
again. Lead gent then drops corner's hand and splits the next
couple in line, pulling the
line of four through. Lead gent goes ccw behind that lady, splits
the next couple and
continues ccw in front of that gent, splits the next couple, etc.,
weaving through all the
couples. After passing through the last couple in line, lead gent leads
line of four into the center
where they circle left and right, swing corners and partners and
circle left again.
Now all
the above is repeated in the reverse direction: Lead gent drops
corner's hand and splits the
next couple in line, pulling the line of four through. Lead gent
goes cw behind that gent,
splits the next couple and continues cw in front of that lady,
splits the next couple, etc.,
weaving through all the couples.
After passing through the last couple in line, lead gent leads
line of four into the center
where they circle left and right, swing corners and partners and
circle left. Lead gent
drops corner's hand and next two couples (3 and 4) join on for a
line of eight dancers. All
above is repeated until all dancers have joined the snake.
[Black Snake Twist, p. 34;
Rohrbough]
- All stand by while we cut off four

Swing your corner and now your own. Break and around the lady and around the gent also. Join four and dance the floor. And half way back. Swing your corner and now your own. The rest stand by while we cut off four more. Now take them all and dance the half.
WEAVE A BASKET
-
- From the big circle, lead gent drops corner's hand and leads all to the right through an arch formed by the couple to his right, traveling from inside the circle to the outside. He then leads back inside the circle by going under the next couple's arch, through the next arch to the outside, through the next to the inside, etc., until circle is reformed. [Weave a Basket; Hendrix]
THE RIVER BEND
-
- A closing figure. The designated lead couple, couple one, circles with couple two. Pick up couple three and
continue circling. River
Bend: Gent one releases corner's hand, couple four steps
forward into the center. The
line leads ccw around couple four and makes a small
cw circle in front of the
fours. Couple four joins the circle as the end of the line passes
them. all circle once around. Repeat
the "River Bend" in bold type with each couple in turn, making an ever-lengthening
line. After bringing in last
couple, all circle left and right, bow to partners and leave the
floor. [The River Bend p.
