BACK-TO-BACK DO-SI-DO
I have not found the do-si-do and see-saw figures described below in any of the books except Bonner's and Dalsemer's. Bob Dalsemer says the back-to-back is probably not historically a southern dance figure.
- Gent faces lady. Passing by right shoulder, walk past each
other. Step to the right without
turning around and back up to place. [Simple Do-Si-Do (back to
back) p.113; Bonner]
- Gent faces lady. Passing by left shoulder, walk past each
other. Step to the left without
turning around and back up to place. [See-Saw (back to back)
p.113; Bonner]
- Right hand turn with partner, left with corner, do-si-do partner, see-saw corner. All done without pause, tracing a figure eight on the floor. Dalsemer writes that the moves are not exactly the back-to-back movement we might expect in do-si-do. See his book for a detailed explanation. [Glenville Fig. 3; Dalsemer]
- Bounce around your partner, dance around your corner. ~ Mack Samples
LITTLE GIRL STEP THROUGH
I believe this is yet another version of the do-si-do. Circle left and then right. Opposites allemande right about 3/4 and let go, the lady finishing the arc by walking back to place. The gents pass back to back, left shoulder leading, and step into the opposite gents place next his partner. Without pause, join hands and circle left and right. Repeat the above, this time initiating by turning partner by the right.
[Little Girl Step Through; Bannerman]
- Circle to the left and back to the right,
Little girl step through Little boy, too, Swing the lady on the right. Circle to the left and back to the right, Little girl step through Little boy, too, Swing your partner.
