THREAD THE NEEDLE
-
- Couples one and three are heads, two and four are sides. Head
ladies circle three hands halfway
around with the side couple on their own right. Sides raise arches
and pass head ladies
through to the center. Ladies go to the next place on the right,
opposite their home
position, and stay put. Head gents then circle halfway with the
side couple on the right.
Sides shoot them through and the gents proceed to the next place
to the right, opposite
from home. Meanwhile, head ladies circle half with the side
couples to their right. Sides
shoot them through, the ladies go home while the head gents then
circle half with the side
couple to the right. Sides shoot them through and the gents join
their partners at home.

- Head and foot lady out to the right.
Swing three, and Thread the needle. Head and foot gent out and follow. Thread the needle. On to the next. (With each couple.) ~ Learned by Mr. Z. Z. Dozier, Alabama, from his grandfather, who knew this figure before 1850
DOUBLE L SWING
-
- Couple one star right with couple two halfway around, star left
halfway back. Opposites keep left hands joined; balance
with opposite and swing the same. Couple one moves on to repeat
figure with couples three
and four. Finish with all balancing partners, swing and promenade.
[Double L Swing p.
16; Rohrbough]
- First couple out to the right and from a star.
Half around to the right; left hands back. Balance four in line. Swap sweethearts and swing sometime. On to the right. (With each couple.) Balance twice, swing, and run away. ~ Learned by Mr. Z. Z. Dozier, Alabama, from his grandfather, who knew this figure before 1850
POKEY FOUR
-
- Couple one leads out to couple two. All swing corners (two-hand swing cw) twice around and the swinging couples travel ccw once around each other. Lady one stays with gent two while gent one and lady two move on to dance the same figure with couple three. Gent one then takes lady three and moves on to dance with couple four. Finally, gent one and lady four move on and stop at gent one's home position. Now gent two and lady one move out to the couple on the right and repeat all of the above, followed in turn by gents three and then four. At the end all should be back with partners.
[Pokey Four, p. 195; Bonner]
- Couple one its up to you
Out to the right like you used to do Pokey four around that floor And when you finish move on for more Now pokey four like you did before And when you're done move on for more Pokey four in the middle of the floor Circle 'round that old barn door Hey, number two it's up to you Pokey four like you used to do Then move on over to a brand new two

Dalsemer has a similar figure called "four and four around the floor" that is used in visiting couple dances as part of the filler before moving on to the next couple. [Morgantown p. 56; Dalsemer]
