This site began as an innocent interest in learning about Southern square dance as percieved from the easy chair. Very quickly I was waylaid by a stack of books, video tapes, records and workshop tapes. The result was enough notes organized to make a book or web site or something of the sort. While I am by no means an expert on Southern square dancing, and certainly am not a scholar, I chose to share my "research" via the web. I'm just a fan with a whole lot of paper scraps and scribbles. My knowledge comes from books and educated guessing. If you are looking for information on living, contemporary square dancing in the South, search for Phil Jamison, Bobby Fulcher, Bob Dalsemer, Nancy Mamlin, Larry Edelman, Julianne Mangin. Those people really know. Thanks to my betters for sharing information and useful criticism. ~ Bill Martin
