I decree that we'll use "Wagonwheel" for the opening and "Right and Left Grand 2" for the finishing big circle figures. Our little circle figure will be "Couple Couples Swing" and we'll add "Quick Change Four 2" for a filler. Go study those figures before continuing here. 1. Form little circles and walk through the little circle progression and figures. 2. Spread back out into a big circle again and walk through the big figures. Now, start the music and call:
-
All join hands and away to the left - - - -
How long to circle is up to you. Let's go back on the reverse track - - - - Balance in and balance out - - - - All go in to the center four steps and back Just the gents to the center and back - - - - All the ladies, in to the center Right hands up in a wagon wheel - - - - How long to travel is up to you, but remember how many beats they walk before turning around... Break and turn, left hands up and roll the wheel The more you roll the better you feel - - - - Gents step in, join right hands Walk along to the promised land - - - - As ladies pass by, gent steps in and walks along with partner, right hand joined with her's (her left still up on the next lady's shoulder.) Swing her out with a full turn around And promenade go round the town Partners join left hands (skater's promenade), lady rolls across gent to his right side and, continuing the movement, partners swing two hands once around and promenade ccw in one big circle.
2. As the dancers promenade, give the command to form up little circles:
- Odds move ahead and circle up four
Circle to the left - - - - Keep them circling the first time until they all get formed up. Then tighten it up. The dashes and underlines represent beats from now on. ********** - - Now back to the right - - - - Odd couple through a couple - Couple round a couple - Couple couples swing - - - - Couple four and circle left - - - - - - Now back to the right - - - - Even couple through a couple - Couple round a couple - Couple couples swing - - - - Couple four and circle left - - - - - - Now back to the right - - - - Partner by the right quick change four Partner right and corner by the left - - Partner right and swing your corner - - - - Swing is once around, finish facing partner. - - Now swing your own- - Swing 1-1/2X, finish facing corner. Join hands circle to the left - - odds move on and circle up four This is the progression
- ************
Wait until most are circling left with a new couple, then repeat the call between the asterisks for these new little circles. Repeat the sequence and progression as many times as you think desirable and then lead them into the final big circle figure...
3. After the partner swing which finishes the "quick change four" above, give the following call:
- Promenade your partners all
One big ring around the hall - - - - The little circles break up and all promenade in one big circle All join hands and away to the left - - - - For whatever amount of time Now, on the corner allemande left with the old left hand Right to your partner, right hand grand Right and left is what we're after Come on folks, get a little faster - - - - When they eventually meet their partners... Here's your partner everyone swing - - - - Now promenade right off the floor That's all there is, there ain't no more!
Listen to the call and join in with me. (Thanks to Bruce Molsky for letting me use "Buffalo Girls" from his Lost Boy CD.) That's all, folks.
